Drinks swap!

We love our local suppliers at The Lodge, and the range of fantastic drinks from across East Anglia that we’re now serving is a huge testament to the individuals reinvigorating our industry.

Now, most of us tend to stick to the drinks we know, but we challenged two of The Lodge’s team members to broaden their horizons and look beyond the usual bar suspects.

Our two contestants were Britt and Ollie – Britt’s rather partial to a G&T, while Ollie is an ales man, so we invited them to a drinks swap. With the glasses set up, here’s what they thought…

• Black Shuck Gin, made in Fakenham, £3.30
Served with mint and fresh berries.
Ollie’s view: “Scrummy, great fruity flavours, long-lasting taste, refreshing.”
Score: 8/10

• Norfolk Gin, made in Norwich, £3.50
Served with orange and thyme.
Ollie’s view: “Unique floral flavours and citrus notes with a bold, powerful taste.”
Score: 7/10

• Adnams Ghost Ship, brewed in Southwold, £3.60
Britt’s view: “Smooth, easy drinking with light, citrus tones.”
Score: 8/10

• Redwell Norwich Pils, brewed in Norwich, £4.75
Britt’s view: “Citrus flavours, light, refreshing, perfect summer drink, a new style traditional pilsner.”
Score: 9/10

The final verdicts:
Ollie: “I never would have considered gin as a drink for me, but after trying Black Shuck, I would certainly consider a fruity gin as an option.”

Britt: “Having never really tried an ale before, I didn’t know what to expect. On a summer’s day, I certainly wouldn’t say no to a drop of Ghost Ship, but a nice gin will always be my favourite tipple though.”

So, next time you’re asked, ‘What are you having?’, why not surprise yourself and dare to try a different drink?

Cheers!

Cheers!
