Grapes. A humble ingredient that can yield a truly amazing range of tastes at the hands of those imaginative winemakers. This month we’ve made some additions to The Lodge’s wine list – here’s our handy guide, so next time you’re in, try a glass of something new – it could just be your new favourite…
• Aligoté, Domaine Prudhon BURGUNDY
Rich, ripe and full-bodied with a nice fresh finish.
• Rueda Verdejo, Pagus Nova SPAIN
A juicy blend with a generous amount of fruit and oodles of flavour.
• Provence Rosé, Chateau Miraval PROVENCE
A bottle with celebrity creds, this one comes from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s estate. Dry and full-flavoured.
• Gran Cedro, Rioja SPAIN
The ‘Fat Pig’ is actually declassified Rioja, apparently named after the winemaker’s bankers!
• Merlot ‘Villa Rosa’ CHILE
An excellent all-rounder with juicy texture and food-friendly weight.
• Fleurie, Chateau Gaillard BEAUJOLAIS
Light, elegant and full of fruit. Soft and very approachable.
• Meerlust Merlot SOUTH AFRICA
Truly a legend! An intense powerful style, like turbo-charged St Emilion.
• Malbec ‘El Capitan’ FRANCE
Raw power, wrapped up in soft velvet.
